An old interest in photography was rekindled some years ago when looking through photography websites I came across a guy using a digital camera along with a spotting scope, thats right, "Digiscoping" . I pursued this line of photography for some years with a reasonable amount of success, to the stage where I felt confident enough to display some of my results on a website I opened, www.digiscoping -uk.co.uk What I found was that I was not dedicated enough to this type of photography which leaned towards birdwatching, I was not really a birdwatcher! After getting a great amount of enjoyment from my hobby and spending a considerable amount of money setting it up I decided that I needed a photogrphic outlet that was not so restricted. My eye was now on Digital SLR Photography which would give me the freedom of handheld camera work and composition, along with the use of the tripod. This was somthing I did not have while digiscoping as the camera always had to be attached to the scope and the scope attached to the tripod to get anything near a decent photograph. All photography is a personal creative exercise involving composition of light and texture with a subject. Photography is also a compromise between what is seen and what can be reproduced. When a lot younger than I am now, as an amateur as I still am, my choice of camera was restricted to the lower end of the price bracket due to more urgent requirements like being married and bringing up a young family. Thinking now, I did possess a SLR Practika for a short period but circumstances dictated that I would need to part with it. My cameras from then until my first digital camera consisted of various 35 mm none SLR . From then until now I never felt I had that freedom to express what I wanted with a camera. I feel now that I have the chance to do that, but without the luxury of being able to say I have not got the right equipment. With the excellent camera equipment I have now and with the use of the digital darkroom I can do more than I could ever do in the chemical darkroom. The challenge is in making the shot and mastering the software, and the compromise is in the limits of myself. In a way, this is more satisfying, since the challenge lies in the creativity of picture taking and choices in processing. My equipment past and present is listed in the menu item "Equipment"
